Parenting…

Parenting, its’ so easy, am I right?! Nope. Just hangin’ on by a thread most of the time. Yet, one moment at a time, we figure it out. I usually don’t feel like I know what I’m doing, but asking questions and being present gets us through it.

Teaching children to acknowledge what’s going on and how it affect others, that’s the goal. It take moments, hundreds of times a day. I turn out a little better each time. I think they might just be learning along with me!?

Okay, so what do you think, should we actively try to annoy your brother? Is that a good idea? Should you do that? Probably not. Is it kind of fun and funny sometimes? Yeah. Does he do that sometimes? Yeah.

Brothers can be annoying. Does that mean we hit each other and try to solve problems with violence? ‘No. But Riley’s always, all ways annoying,’ says the younger one. Well, always is a lot.

He can be annoying. And you can be annoying sometimes, right? Okay, so last thing. I just wanna know, what could you have done better? See, now you’re being annoying. That’s what I’m talking about is the annoyingness.

Okay, now were hitting again? Guys seriously, we just literally talked about this. (As the younger one is crying), he just scratched you? Well Riley, since you scratched him, maybe you should just let Jayce scratch you?

Would that make you feel better? I mean is this the way we solve it, an eye for an eye? No, it’s literally not what I am teaching. However, things like this come up all the time. I’m sorry that hurt.

Can you show me where you got scratched? Let me see. Okay, look at me. Take a deep breath, can I kiss it? There’s these boys who stole my heart and I’d do anything I can for them.

They call me mom. I remember each day when these situations happen that I’m here because I love them. The moment each one of my boys was born, redefined how much love was possible to cultivate within one heart, my heart.
